Over the past 15 years, I have been creating detailed and precise before and after photographs for product user groups. But in late 2019, I embarked on a new project: documenting the small businesses in Highland Park. Sadly, many of the stores I came to know and appreciate had to permanently close their doors shortly after. Determined to make a difference, I continue to expand my project which focuses on the successes and struggles of these essential members of our community and advocates for their survival. Through this experience, I've gained valuable insights about perseverance, adaptation, and my own creative process. It's been a personal journey of self-discovery as I reassess my own role as an artist. I am passionate about capturing the individuality of my subjects, emphasizing the special details of each business and preserving our cultural heritage through my images. I am grateful for the positive reception of my work while I continue supporting the hardworking individuals who are fighting to keep their businesses afloat. As a photographer I am driven by the challenge of interpreting ideas and concepts into striking visuals and sharing the captivating stories I uncover during my exploration. I believe in the unique opportunities that our diverse society offers, and I celebrate those who are working to bring our varied communities closer together.
